These strains were chosen due to their ability to colonise the vaginal tract, hence potentially reducing the risk of vaginal infections such as bacterial vaginosis. In addition, Bifidobacterium bifidum helps in the breakdown of nutrients by the breakdown of complex carbohydrates.
