In this beautifully illustrated little card game, two players take it in turns to draft a card from their hand, reveal what they have chosen, then pass their remaining hand over to the other player and draft again. Each card will have a classification, or 'suit' and points are scored at the end of each round for how many of a certain suit are held in front of you.
After each round players choose one card to keep in front of them and one to discard from the game completely. They then refresh their hands and begin the drafting process again. After three rounds are played the highest-scoring player wins - if they've gotten that far that is!
As well as the card drafting and set collection mechanics seen in its predecessor, Tides of Madness plays into its Lovecraft theme with the addition of Madness tokens. Drafting certain cards will cause you to go mad when they are scored, with players receiving one Madness token for each of them. This fun new aspect adds a fun push-your-luck angle to the game, as the person with the most Madness at the end of each round scores four extra points or can remove one of their Madness tokens. You really want those extra points, but get nine Madness and you automatically lose!
In the small, portable box you will receive rules, score pad, pencils, 20 Madness tokens and 18 cards featuring stunning artwork of key Lovecraftian locations and monsters, such as Miskatonic University, Innsmouth and Cthulhu himself.
As a quick and simple, yet surprisingly strategic, card drafting game that you can take with you on the go, Tides of Madness is a great addition to your two-player card game collection.
