The Hazard Bombers played in the Mountain States League from 1948 to 1952, a Class D circuit comparable to today’s Rookie League. The team began that first season as the Oak Ridge Bombers in Tennessee, but despite a 24-11 start, poor attendance forced owner Bob Broome to relocate the club 150 miles to Hazard, Kentucky. Nestled in the coal-rich mountains of Appalachia, Hazard welcomed professional baseball with enthusiasm, especially as the town had become more accessible by road since the railroad’s arrival in 1912.

In 1951, playing at their new Bomber Field in sharp white uniforms with blue and red accents, the Bombers exceeded expectations. Cuban pitcher Juan Torres threw a no-hitter on opening day, and by May, future Brooklyn Dodgers star Johnny Podres joined the roster, finishing the year 21-3 with a 1.67 ERA and 228 strikeouts. Fellow pitcher Dan Hayling of Costa Rica added a 21-4 record as the team cruised to a 91-33 finish, earning recognition as one of the top 100 minor league teams of all time.

The 1952 Bombers nearly matched that success with an 87-32 record, but it proved to be their swan song as the Mountain States League folded after the season. Johnny Podres would become the only Hazard player to reach the majors, while Hayling spent nine more years pitching in the Mexican League. For a brief, brilliant period, Hazard, Kentucky, was home to one of the finest teams in minor league history.

Almost as good a chewing on my belt.
Size: 25 Inch
My corgi has always loved chasing her leash or a belt so I thought the snake would be a good fit for her. It quickly became her favorite. The squeakers lasted for maybe a month? Once there was a hole then we took them all out so she wouldn't choke. The snake without the squeakers is still a favorite. She's been chewing the tail end consistently and likes to lick it for some reason. I recommend this as a good tug toy. I like that it was made of leather.

DISAPPOINTED
Size: 25 Inch, Size: 25 Inch
I've bought this 9 times since it's my Maltipoos' favorite toy! Unfortunately the one that just came in is not up to par as those previously bought. The leather was cut sloppily & the sewing sometimes ran off the leather completely or so close to edges could easily be chewed open. I can't send back because bought as a treat before leaving for trip & the fact he's already seen it ! I used sewing machine to sew areas that were close to edges - had to take out stitches to remove top squeaker to be able to sew around that area on both sides. Don't know how long this one will last even though I used quilting thread which is a bit stronger than regular thread. Hope this was just a bad one & if so, wish company's quality control would have caught this & rejected it.

Not for aggressive chewers
Size: 36 Inch
My GSD ate half of it within 20min before I caught her. I don’t think it was meant for aggressive chewers so I can’t fault the product for that. My dogs did have a few hours of fun with it playing tug and it held up well.

Emotional Support Lizard
Size: 15 Inch
This was my Goldendoodle puppy's first toy, and a year later, it's still his favorite. It was light enough for him to play with it at 9 pounds, but big enough that he still loves it at 40 pounds. He carries it around, slaps his brother with it, throws it and chases it, sleeps with it, etc. He enjoys his stuffies also, but he returns to this one repeatedly through the day, so I know he loves it. It's a bit discolored, but still fully intact. If you have a dog with a soft mouth who isn't prone to chewing, this toy is perfect. I've purchased extras to keep in the emergency supplies in both the house and the car.
