Silent Hill 2 draait om het verhaal rond James Sunderland. Hij krijgt een brief van zijn overleden vrouw met de opdracht haar op te zoeken op hun favoriete plek. Daar ontdekt Sunderland de waarheid rond haar dood. Ondertussen werkt James samen met Maria. De Silent Hill-serie draait niet op actie, maar om sfeer en puzzels.

Dat zien we ook terug in Silent Hill 3. Silent Hill 3 draait om Heather. Zij is het meisje dat Harry Mason zeventien jaar geleden, in de eerste Silent Hill, onder zijn hoede nam. Heather ontdekt dat een occulte groep haar wil gebruiken om hun god opnieuw tot leven te brengen.
