Vouvray is een klassieke witte Loire-wijn met een rijke geschiedenis, gemaakt van de autochtone Chenin Blanc. Het plaatsje Vouvray en zijn wijngaarden bevinden zich iets ten oosten van de stad Tours op de rechter Loire-oever. De druiven worden in optimale toestand geoogst en het sap gist langzaam op lage temperatuur. De fruitaroma’s blijven zodoende volledig behouden.

De ultramoderne wijnmakerij van Marc Bredif

Marc Brédif is eigendom van en wordt beheerd door de Baron de Ladoucette. De sleutel tot elke de Ladoucette-wijn is kwaliteit in de wijngaard, de wijnmakerij en de fles. De wijnen worden gemaakt in een ultramoderne wijnmakerij en worden ook wel beschouwd als een van de beste in hun soort. De druiven voor de Marc Brédif Vouvray worden geteeld op de lagere hellingen langs de Loire-vallei in Vouvray en Vernou-sur-Brenne en genieten van een noordelijke / zuidelijke blootstelling. De wijngaarden hebben bodems van voornamelijk kalkklei, en sommige percelen hebben vuurstenen kleigronden. De wijngaarden zijn gemiddeld 25-30 jaar oud. De "klassieker" op dit label onderscheidt de traditionele Vouvray van Marc Brédif van de rest van het wijnaanbod.

Handmatige oogst voor Marc Bredif Vouvray Classic

De Chenin Blanc druiven worden met zorg met de hand geplukt om kneuzingen te voorkomen. Vervolgens worden ze pneumatisch geperst. Alleen het sap dat van nature uit de druiven komt, wordt gebruikt, dat 18 tot 24 uur moet klaren. Daarna volgt een temperatuur gecontroleerde fermentatie voor de duur van twee maanden. Tot slot rijpt de wijn negen maanden in vaten op de droesem. Het resultaat is een wijn wat mooi glanzend lichtgeel kleurt in het glas. De geur is zoetig, rijp en verfijnd; licht kruidig met subtiele honing hinten. In de smaak is hij mooi fruitig en heeft een zoete aanzet (rijp wit fruit), ondersteund door frisse zuren; kostelijke witte wijn met een delicate droge smaak. De afdronk is lang en levendig met exotische fruittonen.

So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.

I love this type of story. And omegaverse is one of my all time favorite genres. But there are a few things that pulled me out of my enjoyment while I was reading. It was repetitive at times as well as struggled with telling not showing. So we didn’t always feel like we were experiencing things with the main character.
