Based on prototypes from Syros this medium size jug has a full, rounded body rising from a low foot, drawn upward and sideways into a long lateral spout that tilts like a gesture mid-pour. The vessel earns its presence through shape alone: the quiet tension between the swelling terracotta exterior and the dark-glazed interior, visible only when you look in, or when the light catches the rim.
Vessels of this type moved across the Aegean world of the third millennium, the most elaborate ones are found at Phylacopi on Melos, traced as far as the western coast of Asia Minor. Used for pouring liquids, perhaps oil, perhaps wine, perhaps something offered rather than consumed.
