artist biography
Axel Erik Valerius Fahlcrantz was born on September 5, 1851 in Stockholm. He was was a Swedish landscape painter.
Fahlcrantz came from a creative family - his father was the writer Christian Eric Fahlcrantz, who was the brother of the landscape painter Carl Johan Fahlcrantz and of sculptor Axel Magnus Fahlcrantz. Axel Erik Valerius' younger brother was the book publisher Carl Johan Fahlcrantz, who in 1877 founded the book publisher Fahlcrantz & Co, which in 1925 was taken over by his son with the same name, the actor Carl Johan Fahlcrantz.
After finishing school Fahlcrantz began his studies at Uppsala University in 1972. Between 1874 and 1876 he studied at the Konstakademien (Art Academy) in Stockholm with the intention of becoming a sculptor. He later studied landscape painting and was a student under two teachers Per Daniel Holm and Edvard Perséus. In 1907 he became a member of the Akademien för de fria konsterna (Academy of Liberal Arts).
Fahlcttantz is reprersented in the permanent collections including the National Museum in Stockholm, the Norrköping Art Museum and the Gothenburg Museum.
He passed away at the age of 74 on November 14, 1925 in Stockholm.
