The particle size of nano-diamond by explosive method is usually between a few nanometers and tens of nanometers, which has the size effect of nanometer scale. The particle morphology is generally spherical or polyhedral. Due to the rapid crystallization and growth conditions of carbon atoms during the explosion, there may be some irregular structures and defects on the surface of nanodiamond particles. The surface of nano-diamond by explosive method is rich in many chemical functional groups, such as carboxyl group and hydroxyl group. These functional groups are mainly formed in the subsequent treatment process after the explosion, such as in the pickling and alkali washing process, the nano diamond surface will react with acids, bases and other substances, thereby introducing these functional groups.

The existence of surface functional groups makes the nano-diamond have good chemical reactivity, and the surface properties can be changed by further chemical modification to meet different application requirements. For example, biological molecules, drug molecules, etc., can be connected to the surface of nanodiamond for drug delivery, biomarkers and other applications in the biomedical field.

Thermal conductivity: Nanodiamond is a good thermal conductivity material, suitable for applications requiring efficient heat transfer.

Low friction coefficient: nano-diamond surface friction coefficient is low, suitable for use as a lubricant, can reduce the friction and fuel loss at the joint of machine parts.

Biocompatibility: Nano-diamond has good biocompatibility and is suitable for application in the medical field.


Application Fields

 

Improve the wear resistance of metal coating: Adding an appropriate amount of nano-diamond powder during electroplating can reduce the grain size of electroplating metal and enhance the microhardness.

Metal lubricants: can improve the performance of the surface of the friction pair, reduce friction and fuel loss at the joint of the machine parts.

New wear-resistant materials: For example, the copper zinc, copper tin powder and nano-diamond powder are mixed in a certain proportion, and the new materials are compactly and sintered, which can be used in the manufacture of internal combustion engine cylinder liner, transmission mechanical bushing, plain bearing, etc., with high scratch resistance and wear resistance.

Biomedical field: With unusually high adsorption capacity, large specific surface area, a large number of free electrons on the surface, nanometer size, a large number of oxygen-containing functional groups, chemical inertivity and hydrophilic properties. It can be used in the diagnosis and treatment of oncology, gastroenterology, cardiology, vascular diseases, etc., and can also be used as a biological anti-source carrier to manufacture some antibody drugs. It has no carcinogenic or mutagenic properties and is non-toxic.

Thermal conductivity material: has good thermal conductivity.

Chemical vapor deposition of diamond film: nano-diamond powder applied to the monocrystalline silicon substrate used for chemical vapor deposition of diamond film can form a diamond microcrystalline layer, which can greatly accelerate the growth rate of diamond film and improve the nucleation density of the film.

This book made me angry

I was excited about this book. Many law-related blogs and forums highly recommended this book. It's a "must read" for law students, they said. I was angry when I read the introduction. I was angrier when I began reading the chapters. What happened to brevity? Law students are already swamped with course readings. Why write a book intended to be read by law students in such a long and voluminous way? Much of the text can be removed. "Get to the point," I found myself telling the author as I read page after page. I hated it. It is the rare law student who will pick up this book for its narrative value. The typical law student will pick this book for its value on navigating through law school exams, not for its story-telling. Yet that student will be left disappointed. I wish the author would have considered writing a "Get to the Point" book, which would serve as a shorter version of 'Getting to Maybe.' Perhaps it is not too late. "Get to the Point" could serve as an alternative or accompanying version, maybe? I ask that the author considers this.
