In 1968 Nguyen Qui Duc was nine years old, his father was a high-ranking civil servant in the South Vietnamese government, and his mother was a school principal. Then the Viet Cong launched their Tet offensive, and the Nguyen family's comfortable life was destroyed. The author's father was taken prisoner and marched up the Ho Chi Minh Trail. North Vietnam's highest-ranking civilian prisoner, he eventually spent twelve years in captivity, composing poems in his head to maintain his sanity. Nguyen himself escaped from Saigon as North Vietnamese tanks approached in 1975. He came of age as an American teenager, going to school dances and working at a Roy Rogers restaurant, yet yearning for the homeland and parents he had to leave behind. The author's mother stayed in Vietnam to look after her mentally ill daughter. She endured poverty and "reeducation" until her husband was freed and the Nguyens could reunite. Intertwining these three stories, Where the Ashes Are shows us the Vietnam War through a child's eyes, privation after a Communist takeover, and the struggle of new immigrants. The author, who returned to Vietnam as an American reporter, provides a detailed portrait of the nation as it opened to the West in the early 1990s. Where the Ashes Are closes with Nguyen's thoughts on being pulled between his adopted country and his homeland.Binding Type: Paperback

Cheap and unstable
Size: 4 Panel, Color: Black, Size: 4 Panel, Color: Black
Although this has nothing to do with the product, it arrived a day later than previously stated. Making me have to create a makeshift room divider the day it was actually needed. When the product arrived it arrived in a box that showed no evidence of damage. Once opened, divider was found inside a plastic cover. Great protector for dust or scratching. The divider was fully assembled so there was nothing for me to do but remove it from packaging and use it where needed. After further inspection the divider was not only cheap and flimsy looking it was absolutely unstable. It would wobble and appears to have been assembled in a rush making some panels crooked. I noted significant damage to the bottom portion of some of the panels both front and back. It does not feel like an item worth the price. The color is as advertised and the product had no smell. The sizing was accurate.

Post-COVID Sock Hunt: Finally a Win
Size: Medium, Color: (001) Black / Black / White
Ever since COVID, I haven’t been able to find a pair of socks that hold up for more than a few months. Brands like UA, Adidas, and others seem to have cut corners—likely in response to inflation—by downgrading materials and labor rather than raising prices. The result? Socks that wear thin, rip easily, or lose shape fast.
These, however, have been a pleasant surprise. I’ve been wearing them for a few weeks and so far, they’re holding strong. You can tell some cost-saving measures were still made—certain areas feel slightly thinner—but overall, the construction is solid.
A key win: they stay on. These are ankle socks (not “no-shows”), and they hug the ankle securely. That’s a huge plus in a world where most post-COVID no-shows slide off halfway through the day.
We may never get back to the pre-COVID quality standards without paying a premium, but for now, these are a reliable choice.
Ratings:
• No slipping: 10/10
• Price: 7/10
• Durability (so far): No pilling or loose threads — promising start.

Great Quality and Stylish
Size: Large, Color: (001) Black / Black / White
Exactly what I was looking for. I don’t like socks that are no-show that your ankles rub on the shoe. These are taller than that but shorter than socks that go up and over the ankle. They’re comfortable, good quality, and pretty thick. They’re form fitting m, but not compression. I dint like compression socks, and these are tight, but not too tight.
