When Marco Lincetto proposed that I record something for the fifteenth anniversary of Velut Luna's birth, I realized how deeply involved I am in his endeavor. I would have to make an effort to remember how many CDs I have made for him, but I can easily say that Velut Luna's first CD is "Lidjienko Smile," a duo with Paolo Birro and me. In this "Giant Moon," ideas, influences, and atmospheres that are seemingly very different from each other converge. John Coltrane and Lester Young, along with Warne Marsh, Stan Getz and others, all have something in common, a kind of profound emotional intensity. My goal is simply to achieve that intensity, like a night moth heading for the Moon. Playing with Gibellini, Panagin and Facchinetti was an experience as surprising as ever, even if it sounds like a play on words. I thank them for creating this quartet with me.
